To Ease the Passing of Time

Imagine mountains covered with trees changing colours under the deep blue autumn sky. Imagine the freshness of the air and the smell of the leaves as they slowly fall from the trees to cover the ground. That’s happiness. Now imagine the same scenery and put a river in the middle of it, a river singing gently between the rocks in the middle of the forest. That is joy.

Now imagine a house surrounded by green grass and a white fence. The house and the fence are freshly painted, and everything looks fresh and neat. That’s happiness. Now put flowers around the house, and you’ll have joy on top of your happiness.

You can still be happy with no joy but it’s not the same. Joy is what makes you laugh for no reason and sing even if you are not able to sing; it makes you feel like dancing by yourself whenever you hear music that you like. Joy is what allows you to be spontaneous and a little bit crazy.

Joy is the lightness in your heart and the sparkle in your eyes when you tease each other; it’s the words of love that you don’t have to say because they are floating in the air between you and the one you love.

Happiness is walking on a trail singing a happy song because the sun is shining, because you are young and healthy, and because you feel good about yourself and the life ahead of you; joy is singing in the rain without giving a shit if people watching you may thing you are a crazy old fool.

If you had joy and lost it, you’ll know; it’s like a light was turned off in your life. You’ll still be able to see, but it won't be as bright as it used to be.

You are never too old to find joy; and you are never too young to lose it.

If you have joy in your heart, cherish it like a precious flower. Water it everyday, make sure it has plenty of love and sunshine, and maybe it will stay with you a little longer.

And be aware that sometimes, when you chase it out of your life, joy may get angry and take away your happiness when it goes away.

I know that I have already posted the link for this song in my blog, but it brings me joice to post it again. For me, it's the most beautiful song in the world. It's a song of joy for an old man like me.
